Visuals I liked from the Good Omens: Lockdown 30 year anniversary release
I fucking ADORE coworker fics, especially bc Mickey strikes me as a guy who will definitely mention that he’s married 60 times a day but never actually mention he’s gay (either accidentally because he’s used to everyone knowing about his coming out, or out of residual fear)
Some random co-worker, meeting Ian: Mickey has said the f-slur a few times I thought he was homophobic and I was scared of him but I guess he isn’t if his best friend is gay Jesus?
Ian, deeply offended: Best friend???
Co-worker: I assumed, I mean he talks about you All The Time, more than his wife, I don’t even know her name!
Ian with a shit-eating grin, slowly realising that none of Mickey’s new friends had heard Mickey screaming about how much he loves Ian’s dick while humping a police car in front of half their home town, his homophobic dad, and 12 cops: Yeah…there’s a reason for that…
“Wow, this fic is really good, and I’ve definitely read it before, I wonder why I didn’t save it?”
Mickey: Yeah, it’s time to get my tattoos lasered off
“There we are”
#there is an emotional and monetary difference between cover ups and laser removal#i just can’t buy mickey as saving up that much for removing his tattoos
starkcravingmad:
Shameless 10x12: Spends half the episode showing how Terry Milkovich is a raging homophobe, resorting to arson, assault, etc.
Frank Gallagher in 10x12: You know…homophobic people are gay…
There is something so interesting about how Ian and Mickey are both deep down hiding personalities that are very similar to how the other one acts publically (at least in earlier seasons.)
Ian acts really put together, in charge and straight-laced. He’s got plans for how his life is going to go and he’s got a responsible little job and goes to school. Whereas Mickey seems violent, lacking control in his life and not having or particularly wanting a direction for his life. Petty criminal. Dropout.
But literally any time Ian is left to his own devices, he does something wild (a lot of which can definitely be arguably attributed partially to his bipolar manic states so I’ll be skipping mentions of these though I still argue that they’re evidential):
- sleeps with old married men while underage (sometimes in public)
- breaks into the Milkovich house armed with a tyre iron he found on their porch
- runs away to join the army under a false name
- getting almost all the way to Mexico to run away with his convict ex-boyfriend
- right before going to prison randomly asking Terry ‘3x0666’ Milkovich for advice
- preparing to shiv a guy instead of doing one of the other many, many things that would throw parole
Then Mickey, when he’s allowed to make his own choices goes domestic, gets released for good behaviour, successfully escapes from prison once and almost twice due to flawless planning and execution, 'liberates’ a bunch of prostitutes when he sees his wife being treated poorly, plans an elaborate wedding down to every detail including the chair style and colours, nurses Ian to health.

Y’all know that one quote that’s like (-ish):
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear”
I always think about that line whenever I’m reminded of Ian saying “He isn’t afraid to kiss me”. Because Lloyd is rich, he’s old, he’s in charge of himself, and no one seems to care that the age gap is icky. Of course he’s not scared.
But Mickey, he’s scared, he’s so scared, he’s scared of how he feels for Ian, he’s scared of being gay, he’s scared of himself, he’s scared of his dad, he’s scared of the rest of his family and you can see that fear even years later in the Club Kiss Scene™ where Mickey’s first instinct is to duck backwards. But he cares about Ian so much, about what Ian thinks about him, so he overcomes that fear just to try and give Ian what he wants.
I know that this fandom is all about the Arthur/Merlin but I really love Freya/Merlin content:
- Their love is so soft and caring
- There’s no power imbalance - she’s just as powerful as him in different ways
- Both immortal but can never 100% be together because she’s immortal in the land of the dead and he’s immortal in the land of the living? The ways that fanfictions circumvent that???
- The humour potential of the knights finding out that Merlin has had a girlfriend/wife for years and they’ve never even heard of her
- Mordred/other druids discovering that Emrys is in love with a goddess (also that he basically made her into a goddess)
- HE MADE HER INTO A GODDESS BASICALLY
- If there’s water, she can visit him - disgustingly sappy at all times
The idea of Arthur telling Merlin not to use the drinking water for love letters because it makes it taste different?? - Her healing him
- Her hanging onto Excalibur for Merlin as he trusts no one else with it?
- Merlin’s magic loves her too? It kept making her roses.
Merlin BBC is just the best show for reveal fics, you got:
- Merlin has Magic
- Merlin is Emrys/most powerful sorcerer ever
- Merlin is immortal
- Druids are like, so close to worshipping Merlin
- Merlin is dragoon
- Merlin was the Dalma
- Merlin has a girlfriend
- Merlin’s girlfriend is the goddess of the afterlife and also water
- Arthur killed Merlin’s girlfriend
- Merlin’s dad was Balinor
- Merlin is a dragonlord
- The dragon/s are alive and well and living in Camelot
- The once-and-future-king thing and the implications of reincarnation or restriction
- The entire prophecy thing
- Merlin/any knight or Mithian relationship reveal
- Mordred the adult is the same as the druid child (Arthur doesn’t remember)
- Mordred has magic
- Morgana has magic, is Arthur’s sister etc
- Gwaine is secretly noble
- reveals involving multiple characters already knowing merlin had magic
- Arthur was born using magic - Uther sucked more than he thought
- Merlin lied about Morgause lying about Arthur’s mum
- Merlin killed Nimueh
- Merlin has basically solved every magical problem Arthur has ever had
Is it really so much to ask for a fic where Merlin and Mordred shamelessly cheat at charades using Druid Speak? The knights are gobsmacked? The idea of Merlin making one (1) gesture and Mordred immediately going “Ah yes, Arthur’s third favourite horse, Primrose!”
